How many times have you been to a website only to find out you don't have the correct version of Flash or Shockwave, or received a document or file that will not work with the current version of software you have installed? For Windows you can always turn on Automatic Updates, and with software applications there is often an option to automatically check for updates, but not always, so we are left with researching and manually updating all of these applications. This is not a very efficient way for a busy user to get things done, so today we will take a look at a great utility called Secunia Personal Software Inspector that will help avoid these time wasting annoyances.

http://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/03/02/keep-your-software-up-to-date-with-personal-software-inspector/

SpyMe Tools is very useful in detecting Registry and Disk changes. If any application installs spyware, adware, dlls, programs, files, or any other type of file, picture, or program, etc. or changes the Registry's content, you will be able to see exactly where the modification occurred so you can take measures. It seems like more and more programs are attempting to install spyware, advertisements, or other garbage without your knowledge, but with this software you will know everything that is added or removed.

http://lifehacker.com/5162963/spyme-tools-tracks-changes-to-your-windows-registry

Easy to use and completely FREE, Coollector is a huge encyclopedia of movies and series, combined with a database of existing videos. You track not only the videos you own, but also all the movies you´ve seen, good or bad. Contrary to other movie collection managers, you don´t start with some dull empty database. The whole encyclopedia is included with the program... you download... you have it all!

http://www.freewarefiles.com/Coollector_program_26581.html

Simple Backup Tool is (as implied by the name) a very simple application to automatically backup the content of one or more folders. You can specify the input folder and the backup location, and set the program to perform a backup every X minutes. It also offers the option to delete files in the backup folder that are no longer present in the original folder (mirroring). Suitable for the most basic backup needs, easy to use.

http://www.freewarefiles.com/Simple-Backup-Tool_program_22061.html

Wondering why Windows has a Start - but no Stop button. This may change now if you decide to download WinExit. Once installed you will wonder why you run Windows so long without it. WinExit allows to shut down Windows by double click. Beside shutting down using different shut down types (also timer or alarm triggered), WinExit also is able to log usage time, and a clean up service during shut down. Everything with just one double click.

http://www.hushpage.com/WinExit/winexit.html

Interesting concept - WinSplit Revolution allows you to easily organize your open windows by tiling, resizing and positioning them to make the best use of your desktop real estate. WinSplit is especially useful for high-end LCD screens with high resolutions because it helps you to efficiently manage many active windows. The advantage of using WinSplit is that it saves you from having to drag and drop windows by allowing you to snap windows into specific tiled configurations using simple keyboard hotkeys.

http://www.winsplit-revolution.com/home
